You Get What You Pay For…

How many times have you heard the expression, “You get what you pay for?”

It’s one of the more popular clichés around, yet this one has stood the test of time because it contains a grain of truth, and applies correctly in a great deal of situations. Most often, it follows a negative experience with a product, service or vendor, in which corners are cut in an effort to save a few dollars. Inevitably, the quality of the product suffers most.

People will always want things cheaper and faster. But when it comes to technology outsourcing, quality is the one thing should never be sacrificed.

There are a few common variables used to measure IT project success (Scope, Schedule, Budget), and although project managers aspire to balance these variables, the goals of each are often in competition with each other, and tradeoffs are inevitably required. Yet quality is directly related to each variable, and at the end of the day, trumps them all as the most accurate predictor of project success.

Why?

Look at it this way. Just because a product is delivered on time, on budget, and meets specific requirements doesn’t mean that it’s successful or that the customer will be satisfied. If quality standards aren’t met, the rest is obsolete.

Fairway addresses this topic in its newest White Paper titled, You Get What You Pay For! How Demanding Quality in Technology Outsourcing Delivers Value.” This paper examines the correlation between quality and cost in technology outsourcing, and reveals new strategies for identifying a quality outsource provider.

If IT outsourcing is in your future, and you want to ensure that you “get what you pay for,” give this white paper a read. We think you’ll like the ROI.
